Bosco d'Alcamo Nature Reserve

Bosco d'Alcamo Nature ReserFor those who wish to breathe some fresh air, or to take a walk down the paths surrounded by trees, in complete silence, the Bosco D'Alcamo Nature Reserve is surely perfect with its rich vegetation made of broad-leaved trees like Aleppo pines, cypresses, stone pines and holm oaks. Underwood is made of peonies, orchids, mastics, pettigrees, brooms, cane apples, blackthorns, pear trees, buttercups, cyclamens, hawthorns and wild roses. A lot of spices can be found as well such as mint, thyme and oregano to flavor your food!

A lot of birds come here to nest: the buzzard, the kestrel, the peregrine falcon, the lanner falcon, the western jackdaw, the blue rock thrush, the Eurasian scops owl, the great tit and the blue tit, the robin, the blackbird and the hoopoe, that has been declared a protected species. It is very nice to observe the short-toed treecreeper climbing the trees looking for insects (as the name suggests!). During the night little owls, barn owls and towny owls watch and guard the forest.

On the top, 800mt. high, stands the tower of the ancient Ventimiglia castle, founded during the Arab domination, overlooking the whole foreland, with a wonderful panoramic view of Castellammare del Golfo and Alcamo.
